There are many high functioning autistics who say they don't need cured, just public support and understanding and I wish that was a reality too but unfortunately for many on the spectrum public support is not enough to give them a decent quality of life. I love my brother and if I could 'fix' or cure him, then I would in a heartbeat. I would give him the life he deserves.
justjaybel
Can I just ask, why are you so angry? I was reading through the comments and every one you have replied to had been an angry and defensive response. The thing is, Autistic Spectrum Disorder is exactly that, a spectrum. Each and every child autistic child will vary. My 32 year old brother has low functioning autism. He will never live independently, he will never have a relationship, he will never understand 'love', he has lived his entire life trapped in anxiety.

Oh yes you can go claim it was the autism again. Obviously because it happened to an autistic more than once it must be the autism that did it. Correlation equals causation. No, I wont let you get away with that logical fallacy. Now I know you really have an agenda of the most banal kind. You would manipulate information in order to 'help' autistics? That kind of self-righteousness is their greatest impediment.
jlmelgarejo
You can add Au-Juna Banks-Taylor, 9 years old from Mesa, Arizona to the list as well now... unfortunately.I am sure his autism had ZERO to do with him wandering off from home and walking onto a freeway.

You are the one with an agenda. You have disorted facts about Autistic children causing self-dangerThree of your examples happen to any kind of kid:"Farrier was a kid left unattended at a highway. DeSantiago and Kugblenu were run over and drowned in a pool."And here you claim self-endangerment when it was ambiguous:Mohammad Usman Chaudury was shot by a policeman. It was supposedly excessive force. James Delorey was found with hypothermia. Again, we have no evidence of self-harming.
jlmelgarejo
Thank you. Your bias and agenda are now clear.Whoever said that the reason anybody diagnosed somebody as having ASD was because they have self-endangerment tendencies?I believe what I said is that many people on the spectrum display that behavior. If you were to Google the names I suggested you would understand that those aren't people I am claiming to know. They are all people with autism that died from escaping care, or not understanding the dangers of their surroundings.
andrewkilroyable
Claiming that a child is autistic because they have self endangerment tendencies only tells me that the autism label has become a farce. This is not on the criteria. it's like with ADHD or childhood bipolar syndrome. There is constant inflation in numbers driven by the vindictive hate of parents who want their kids to be 'normal'.That you intimidate autistic people telling them that you know them and their friends better than they do only shows the gutlessness of some parents.
andrewkilroyable
Claiming that self-endangerment is a characteristic of autism is a complete farce for which you insist on looking up these names. So I did. Mohammad Usman Chaudury was shot by a policeman. It was supposedly excessive force. James Delorey was found with hypothermia. Again, we have no evidence of self-harming. Farrier was a kid left unattended at a highway. DeSantiago and Kugblenu were run over and drowned in a pool. That happens to any kind of kidThis is obvious source bias. You have an agenda.
andrewkilroyable
Of course, like all the hundreds of things that people say are on the spectrum all the time from nerve disorders to muteness to tantrums to everything. Autism is everything you say it is.I think your claim that I have a bias and an agenda is just an attempt to attack me without facing the facts. Not EVERYTHING is autism. Claiming it is and throwing names at me is clear evidence of an agenda.
jlmelgarejo
Not being able to recognize self-endangerment is indeed one of the many characteristics that some people on the spectrum display. If you are unaware of this fact or deny it, then clearly you have some sort of bias and an agenda.Google: John Burton, Mohammad Usman Chaudhry, James Delorey, David DeSantiago, Devine Justice Farrier, Adlai Kugblenu, Bernard Latimore, Charlie Manley, Blake Morrell, Sean Taglione, Godswill Udoh, Trevor Varinecz, Kristina Vlassenko, Stephon WattsTo name a few.
